The new album is due September 29th and Mariah’s currently rehearsing for her 3 night, live Vegas Show! She also has an appearance on GMA and Oprah coming up!!!
This week her first single “Obsessed” jumped 4 spots to #7 on Billboard, making it her 27th top 10 hit!!! Her second single “I Wanna Know What Love Is” impact radio and hits iTunes on September 15th!!!
Mariah Carey has sold more than 160 million albums worldwide, and, if radio play for the first single on her new album, Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel, is any indication, she’s on the verge of racking up more No. 1 hits than the Beatles. But underneath the pop varnish, Carey’s just a smitten newlywed in the middle of a home renovation, juggling a job and a new puppy. Sort of…
Congratulations on the album! Can you describe the new sound?
Each song is its own snapshot of a moment in a story. But overall, the vibe is R&B hip-hop with a lot of slow jams.
What kind of mood were you in when you wrote the album?
Each song has its own mood; some flow seamlessly into each other, and that was the purpose, and others are very different. The album has a sense of humor you can hear me laughing out loud at certain points but it also has deep and introspective moments.
Is there a track that holds special meaning for you?
Since I write almost all my songs, they all do. But a song like “The Impossible” is very much where my life is right now because I am actually in love for the first time.
Congratulations on celebrating your one-year wedding anniversary with Nick Cannon. How’s married life?
Amazing, better every day.
How do you two spend your free time?
We travel a lot. I think we’ve been to over 35 cities already.
Did Nick weigh in on the album?
We tend to do our own thing, but I did like sharing the process of this album with him, as we have the same taste in music and he’s a great DJ and loves music.
You just bought a house in L.A. What’s it like?
It’s a Georgian manor. We basically redid the entire thing, from the floors to landscaping to the closets, which are inspired by my New York apartment, with a men’s and women’s department store-esque feeling! Of course, I have the salon and Nick has a basketball court, which is his favorite place in the house. And I love having the outdoor space so the dogs can play. It’s not too small; it’s not too big; it’s not a monstrosity. It’s a home.
Are you permanently moving to L.A.?
No, I’m bicoastal and always have been. When I came to L.A., I just used to stay in hotels or rented homes.
You’ve been looking great lately. How do you stay in shape?
When I want to lose weight, I’ll avoid carbs and anything fried. I eat mostly soups with protein, and drink lots of water and chamomile tea.
You love your Jack Russell terriers. How’s your puppy, Cha-Cha?
She’s adorable. Nick got her for me as a present, but she loves me the best! She sleeps in the bed with me when Nick goes to work. And she gets along with Jack Junior, aka JJ, my other dog. We want to breed them!
So, now that you’re happily married and have completed yet another album, do you think you’ll ever take a break?
I’ve been doing a lot of other interesting things, which I’m super excited about, like filming Precious. It’s an incredible movie by Lee Daniels, inspired by the novelPush, written by Sapphire. I read it a long time ago, and it changed my life. Everyone should read it.
Forget for a moment that you’re an international superstar. How would you describe yourself?
Hmmm… festive, emotional, creative, “artsy,” a jokestress.
How often do you think about music? Is it always in your head?
Constantly! It has been ever since I can remember. I always have a song that’s a melody I’m making up, or a song on the radio. Music is a constant for me and it always will be.
You’ve had so much success. Where would you like to be in 10 years?
I try to live in the moment. It says in the Bible, Matthew 6:34: “Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.”

Mariah Carey seems poised to take over the world. Her new album is highly anticipated, having already spawned a top 10 hit. Her perfumes are flying off the shelves, her new movie is being endorsed by Tyler Perry and Oprah which pretty much guarantees it’s success and she seemingly couldn’t be happier with her career and her life. I’m so proud of her!!!
Yes!!!! Billboard’s Queen first single from “Memoirs Of An Imperfect Angel” has finally breached the top 10 on Billboard!!! Obsessed sits at #7 this and hopefully excels to the top 5 and eventually #1, which would make it her 19th!!!
Mariah’s highly anticipated new album will be available September 29th 2009!!!
Yes!!! But on the airplay chart… It’s still too early to say where the single will land for this week but I’m really feeling like she’s gonna get it done!
Peep the stats below:
AIRPLAY
• Billboard Hot 100 Airplay as of 08/22/09, with 3 days left: “Obsessed” at #10 (+4.7 million).
• Following are the airplay numbers for “Obsessed” as of 8/23/2009 according to Mediabase: 61.766 million in audience impressions with 11118 spins (Rhythmic – 5287, Pop – 2892, Urban – 2595, Urban A/C – 248, Hot A/C – 42, A/C – 12, Alternative – 2, FUSE – 16, BET – 5, VH1 – 10, MTV – 6, MTV2 – 3).
Mimi is having some trouble turning “Obsessed” from a top 20 hit to a top 10 hit!. She debuted at #11, fell to 14, stayed 14 for two weeks and is now back at #11… I’m sure she’s pulling her fusions out about this. Once she starts really promoting, performing the song on late night and award shows, she may get there…
• “Obsessed” will be released in Vinyl format on August 25th and is now available for pre-order for $5.68 at Amazon.

AIRPLAY
• Following are the airplay numbers for “Obsessed” as of 8/18/2009 according to Mediabase: 55.822 million in audience impressions with 10360 spins (Rhythmic – 4962, Pop – 2578, Urban – 2457, Urban A/C – 256, Hot A/C – 45, A/C – 15, Alternative – 3, FUSE – 16, BET – 5, VH1 – 12, MTV – 8, MTV2 – 3).
Mariah may be saving all her live appearances for her second single announced a few days ago “I wanna know what love is”, which is said to be a power ballad along the lines of “Stay the Night” or “Circles”. Mariah is gonna be singing her ass off on this record! I can’t wait to hear some leaks from it!!!
Foreigner’s Mick Jones can start ordering caviar and Champagne again: Mariah Carey is releasing her own gospel-tinged version of his masterwork song, “I Want to Know What Love Is.”
It’s the first “real” single from her new album following the summer release of the witty “Obsessed,” which is also included on “Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel.” The album and the single hit the world on Sept. 29th.
I heard the Foreigner song yesterday along with all of “Memoirs” and let me tell you: Mariah’s got a hit on her hands along the lines of “Emancipation of Mimi “The hour-long CD is ballad-centric. Written and produced with The Dream and Tricky (I know, but these are their stage names), “Memoirs” boasts a lot of singles. Starting with the Foreigner song is a canny move in these uncertain times. By the time its run is over, a new generation will think “I Want to Know What Love Is” is a Mariah Carey song.
The other songs on the album – these are the titles, although the running order is still being finalized: “Betcha,” “Obsessed,” “H.A.T.E.U.,” “Candy Bling,” “Ribbon,” “Standing O’s.,” “Impossible,” “It’s a Wrap,” “Inseparable,” “Up Out My Face,” “More than Just Friends,” and “Angels Cry.”
Several of these are radio ready. “Angels Cry” is an honest-to-god ballad a la “Vision of Love,” and should be a gigantic success. “Standing O’s” also has potential, as do “H.A.T.E.U.” – which stands for “having a typical emotional upset” – and “Inseparable.”
Def Jam’s L.A. Reid – who previewed the CD for the first time yesterday with a clutch of staffers – is playing with the order, to get it right. But he really can’t go wrong. Carey’s album, is, as they used to say, “what the kids want.” Plus, it’s got stuff for the slightly older crowd. I loved the doo-woppy “It’s a Wrap.” And the Foreigner track is so powerful, it’s going to be everywhere.
Good news, too: no more songs about Eminem. One was plenty.

So…. clearly the Mariah and the label aren’t satisfied with “Obsessed”, even though it’s her highest debute in 10 years and sits firmly in the top 20, I guess M…
I’m just hoping the rumor I heard about new album art is true because I REALLY don’t care for the current cover…
Mariah announced it today via her official website. We will be waiting another 2 weeks for “Memoirs of An Imperfect Angel”. The album is now slated for a September 29th release date.

Before the album comes out I’m going to write a special article about Mariah and her work thus far this decade… Get at me!
This is a song called “Clown” from Mariah’s 2003 album “Charmbracelet”. It was recorded after eminem released his original Mariah Carey diss “Superman”… If you listen to her lyrics, it’s a clear response to Eminem’s then diss track.
These two are back at it again in 2009 with “Obsessed” and “The Warning”… Mariah clowned Eminem on her lead single and first video from the new album “Memoirs of An Imperfect Angel” but only as a response to Eminem’s “BagPipes & Baghdad” which appears on his recent project “Relapse”…
Everyone seems to think Mariah’s gonna shut up after Eminem popped off how he did…. BUT she had to know that know that he would have something to say about that video… I think she’s got more. I think she’s really gonna come for that a** on this album. The whole concept of the new project is answering questions about past relationships. M is very private but her new marriage has clearly got her on some other sh**…
OMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG HE SLAYEDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD HERRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Mariah Carey will join the line-up at the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards.
The “Obsessed” singer is set to take the stage at this year’s show, an insider exclusively reveals to Rap-Up.com. The 26th annual event will air September 13 from Radio City Music Hall in New York City.
An official announcement is expected soon. Previously announced performers include Taylor Swift and Muse.
The appearance comes on the heels of Mariah’s new album, Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel, scheduled for release two days later on September 15. The last time she performed at the VMAs was in 2005 when the show was held in Miami.
Russell Brand will host the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards, airing live on Sunday, September 13, at 9 p.m.
‘I look like my brother and my cousin Chris,’ Mimi says of video character everyone compares to Eminem.
Is it Eminem or isn’t it? Well, Mariah Carey herself insists that the stalker she played in her “Obsessed” video looks more like one of her male relatives than the rapper.
“Everybody started having their own speculations about who the stalker was,” she told MTV News. “I’m like, look, when I look at that stalker and me with the beard and the whole 9 yards, I look like my cousin Chris. I do. I look like my brother and my cousin Chris. So basically, you know, all the speculation about who I’m playing in the video, it’s not accurate.”
Since Nick Cannon and the video’s director, Brett Ratner, have also said that the song and video aren’t about Eminem, maybe it is just a crazy coincidence.
So who thought to put Carey in drag for the video? Ratner has said that Carey was the brain behind the getup, but the singer said that it was actually her hubby, Cannon, who thought up the idea to dress his ultra-feminine wife as a man. “Well, I live for a disguise, but … I love the anonymity of it,” she said. “But actually it was Nick’s idea, ’cause we were going after different comedians, comediennes.”
Though Carey credits Cannon for the brilliant idea, she also says she was able to pull it off thanks to all the acting she’s been doing. “The thing is that Nick was like, ‘Why don’t you just play the stalker?’ and I’m like, ‘I could do that ’cause I’ve been acting lately,’ ” she explained. “I’ve done a lot of different things and I’m very proud of the work that I’ve done lately, but the thing is that this was the chance to work with Brett Ratner.”

Get ready to start seeing MUCH Mariah Carey in the coming months. Her album drops on the 25th of August and her single is getting ready to burn the charts up. Stand up and bow your heads, Billboard’s Queen is getting ready to slay!!!
Notice how she’s started dressing SO much more conservatively. It’s still a sexy look but her legs, chest and everything imbetween isn’t as exposed as the Mariah we’ve seen in the past years. I’m happy for her and that turkey neck, corny a** n**** she married. As long as she’s happy I am… All photos from the shoot come courtesy of Mariahdaily.com
Yesterday, June 28th, Mariah has started filming the music video for “Obsessed,” the first single off her new album, Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel. Day one of the shooting was held behind closed doors on the fourth floor of The Plaza Hotel in New York City. The concept of the video is a fiercely protected secret, and there are reportedly “many surprises” that they do not want to disclose at this time.
The “Obsessed” music video, directed by Brett Ratner, is tentatively set for release on Monday, July 13th.
Jay-Z may have declared AutoTune dead, but Mariah Carey just revived it. On the debut single from her 12th studio album (“Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel,” due Aug. 25 on Island Def Jam), the singer who needs no vocal manipulation uses the effect with startling success. The key is making it look easy. Along with the-Dream and C. “Tricky” Stewart, Carey has crafted a gem of a diss record that coasts, even over its sputtering moans and synth jabs. One questionable Windex analogy aside, her lyrical boasts are biting and funny, and the syrupy lightness of her vocals is tailor-made for the ribbing she gives her mystery pursuant (reportedly Eminem). Though some lament Carey trading in her sky-high notes and ballads for a more constrained, R&B-friendly range, the singer has clearly found a new comfort zone that could very well produce her 19th No. 1 hit.
